A Story of Faith, Resilience, and Divine Favor
Life has a way of throwing us into unexpected pits—moments of hardship that feel impossible to climb out of. As a single parent navigating the uncertainties of the pandemic, I found myself facing one of the toughest challenges of my life: being forced to leave my rental home with only 60 days to find shelter for my children.
Much like Joseph in the Bible, who was thrown into a pit by his own brothers (Genesis 37:23-24), I felt abandoned, uncertain of what lay ahead. But through faith, perseverance, and divine intervention, I discovered that sometimes, the pit is just a setup for an incredible testimony.

The Pit Moment: Forced Into Uncertainty
The world was already in turmoil and then came another personal blow—I received notice that my rental agreement wouldn’t be renewed, leaving me with only 60 days to find a new home. The weight of single parenthood, financial concerns, and the unpredictability of the pandemic pressed in like walls closing around me.
"The reality crashed down on me with a force I wasn’t prepared for. Sixty days. That was all I had to uproot my family and find stability amid the chaos. It felt like an unraveling—like the bottom had fallen out from beneath me."
Joseph’s story came to mind—left in darkness, unsure of what would come next. And just like him, I felt forgotten. But as I would soon learn, God never forgets His children.
Grace in Unexpected Places
Just when I felt most lost, grace found me. My property manager, Deb, stepped in when I least expected it, working behind the scenes to buy me more time. And then, divine intervention came—the presidential executive order extending housing protections during the pandemic.
"Psalm 46:1 says, 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.' In that moment, I clung to those words. Help arrived through hands I never expected. The pit was deep, but grace was deeper."

A Journey of Searching
Encouraged by Deb’s advice, I stepped out in faith to pursue homeownership. My daughters and I visited numerous homes over the next four months. House after house, none felt right. Each rejection, each disappointment added to the weight I carried.
Then, on my youngest daughter's birthday—July 13th—the property owner delivered yet another unexpected blow. It felt like the final straw, but it became the turning point.
"Exodus 14:14 says, 'The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.' So I prayed, reflected, and returned to my notes. If God was leading me, He must have left clues along the way."
And there it was—a home I had seen months before, still waiting.

A Divine Confirmation
Following faith and intuition, I reached out to the listing agent, who confirmed the home was still available—but only for a short time before the next showing. Urgency gripped me, and without hesitation, I drove across the North Carolina border to see it.
"As I followed the listing agent to the house, something stirred within me—an overwhelming sense of recognition. My heart pounded. And then, as the house came into view, tears spilled down my cheeks. I had seen this place before—not in March, not in real estate listings, but in a dream. Two years earlier, I had envisioned it—the navy blue exterior, the perfect square footage, the two-car garage I had prayed for, the backyard waiting to hold my daughter’s trampoline."
This was the house—the one God had been preparing for us all along.
"Habakkuk 2:3 says, ‘For the vision is yet for an appointed time… Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come.’ That day, I understood those words in a way I never had before. The vision I had seen years earlier was finally coming to life."
An Overflowing Blessing—God’s Undeniable Favor
As if finding the perfect home wasn’t miraculous enough, God had one more surprise waiting for me.
The listing agent submitted my application to the mortgage company and the builder, and then came news that stunned me—I qualified for absolutely no down payment. Even more astonishing, the closing costs would be fully covered.
"When I heard those words, I was overwhelmed. Not only had God led me to the home He had shown me in my dreams, but He ensured that I would step into it without financial burden. My Father had fully draped me in His great and amazing grace. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that He is ‘able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.’ And this was proof. What I thought would be impossible, He had already prepared."

From the Pit to Purpose
On July 16th—just days after hitting rock bottom—I signed the contract. Not only did I secure housing, but I fulfilled a long-awaited dream: buying my first home, a brand-new home, untouched by previous tenants, waiting for me and my children to make it our own.
"Genesis 50:20 says, ‘You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.’ What I thought would break me became the foundation for something greater. The pit was real, but it wasn’t permanent. And just like Joseph, I walked forward—not just surviving but thriving. Because grace doesn’t always come in the form we expect, but when it arrives, it changes everything."
Sharing the Journey of Faith
This experience taught me that when life feels like it’s falling apart, God is often putting something together. If you’re in your own “pit” moment, trust that God is working behind the scenes.
Sometimes, the journey is long, the setbacks feel endless, but what is meant for you will always be yours.
Has God ever turned your trials into triumphs? I’d love to hear your testimony in the comments. If this story spoke to you, share it with someone who might need encouragement today.
